ARE YOU READY TO LEARN PHOTOSHOP!!! By the end of this intro unit you will know the basic inner workings of Photoshop from its tools to its options to its pallets. You will also discover different file types, their functions and the difference between raster and vector files.
Through formative assignments you will explore design scenarios and produce cover artwork for a children’s book.
START BY DOWNLOADING THE FILES!!!! Below you will see a button that says "DOWNLOAD FILES" Click on it and the files you will need for the next few weeks will begin to download into your "download folder" located in your the dock. (the dock is that little toolbar located at the bottom of the screen). The other way to find your download file is by going into the Macintosh HD icon located in the top right corner of the desktop. Downloads folder will show up as a option under your favorites.

You will be watching all the videos and working along with them. The easiest way to do this is to watch the videos on your ipad and working on the computer.
You will be saving all of the work from the tutorials and submitting the .jpg files to schoology.
Formative Assignments (from TastyTuts page): All formative assignments will be uploaded / posted to Schoology. You will submit your work as jpeg copy files to Schoology when turning in your work, unless otherwise noted.
Option 1 - Original Book Cover Graphic Design Choose a topic you are passionate about. Do not use copyrighted ideas; ie. pop culture characters, video games, tv shows, movies, etc. Acceptable ideas could include a social issue, a personal story, a historical event, etc. Create a book cover that illustrates your chosen theme. Apply what you've learned about design, layout, and organization from the previous lessons to this summative project. Your work should be original and no images from the internet will be allowed.
Option 2 - Appropriated Book Cover Graphic Design Appropriation means, in the artworld, to take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission and putting a new contemporary spin on it. Take a preexisting story, book, novel, or topic that you enjoy and create a new, original, unique, book cover design. Try to go with the first response given; however, if it doesn't float your boat, click the "refresh" button and choose a theme to suit your fancy.
HOW YOU WILL BE GRADED
Your work is visible in various layers. If you choose to do option 2 you will need to show that you are altering the images combining, manipulating, or layering to create a new narrative. This is not a cut and paste assignment.
You will need to show your original planning sheet showing their was forethought into your work.
Intentional and well thought out design considering the following: Color relationships, genre of the book matches over all feeling, creates questions rather than giving away answers, considers the elements and principals of design.
You will need to include the title and author of the book. (Episode 30: Adding Type to the Design)
Your Design needs to be placed upon the provided blank book cover that can be downloaded on the class website.
Show understanding of and include a minimum of three of the following techniques in your book design
